kinetic:Energy in motion. Energy that is presently in motion or is moving.

The cat cradle has kinetic energy because it is in motion.

potential:Energy stored in a object. Energy that could go in motion but isn't presntly in motion

The baseball has potential energy when it hits it highest point in the throw.


Potential energy is energy stored it can potentially be energy in motion but it isnt yet so it is potential. When an object is in motion it is kinetic. Like throwing a ball or skiing. You can teach this by simpily throwing a ball into the air and pointing out the potential energy at the highest point and kinetic for the rising and the falling.

mechanical: combination of potential and kinetic energy resulting from the force of gravity or movement of a machine component ex:spring, clamp or wheel.=a spring is an example of mechanical energy

thermal:is the total energy in objects. when the thermal energy of an object increaces its particles move faster making it feel warmer to touch(prentice hall textbook).ex:ice cream melting=when an objects thermal temperature rises it might cause it to melt.

acoustic: sound energy ex: beating drum=acoustic energy is carried in sound waves.

electrical:producing or operated by electricity ex: t.v,xbox, toaster=you use electric energy in your everyday life.

chemical: potential energy stored in chemical bonds that hold chemical compounds together ex:chocolate, wax=batteriea are considered a chemical energy because it converts its energy to work a toy.

electromagnetic: relating to electric currents. When charged particles are accelerated ex: cell phones=microwaves can be very dangerous because they send out elecromagnetic waves.


nuclear:atomic energy,nuclear reaction especially by fission or fussion ex;sun, stars, bomb=nuclear power plants can also be an example of nuclear energy.
